The South Devon Herd

Our South Devon herd was founded in 1989. Foundation stock came mainly from Stretchford, Coombe Farm and Roskymer females. We have had success with herd sires from Highgate, Sexton and Cilgwrrwg, with the aim of building up a uniform and productive herd.

More and more commercial beef producers are turning to South Devons, because of their docility and ability to convert grass to meat. We are adding more features to give customers more confidence in the stock we offer for sale.

- Using the DNA test for the myostatin double muscling gene helps us select cattle which are free of this gene, which we believe leads to more reliable easy calving and better consistency of the herd overall.

- Selecting polled animals wherever possible, while making sure we do not lose any other South Devon qualities.
